Saving Young Lives Through Cardiac Screening

Providing vital cardiac screening appointments for young people aged 14-35 years

Nathan's Story

In memory of Nathan Bryan, who died aged 31 from Young Sudden Cardiac Death

In February 2019, our son Nathan died aged 31 years from Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD). My wife Gill and I found Nathan dead in his bed, a memory that will live with us forever.

In the dark days and months following Nathan's death, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) provided much needed grief counselling for my wife.

In late 2021, we formed a community group called "The Beat Goes On" and commenced fundraising to provide cardiac screening for young people in our community.

Our Mission

Protecting young hearts through early detection and advocacy

Fundraising

We raise funds to provide cardiac screening appointments for young people aged 14-35 years in conjunction with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Campaigning

We're campaigning the Government to introduce routine cardiac screening for all young people attaining age 14 years.

Our Campaign for Change

We are urging the Government and UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC) to introduce population cardiac screening for every young person when they reach age 14 years.

What We're Asking For

  • ECG screening at age 14 for all young people
  • Review of family history as part of screening
  • Follow-up echocardiogram (heart scan) where necessary
  • National awareness campaign on cardiac health
12 Apparently fit and healthy young people aged 14-35 die every week in the UK
